Audience Favorite The Currys Perform at this Year’s Annual Holiday Jewel Box Concert at the Thomas Center

12/9/2015

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shakerag Culture Center, Inc., is pleased to announce the next upcoming Jewel Box Concert at the Historic Thomas Center, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. featuring audience favorite The Currys for this year’s annual holiday concert. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door - cash or check only, please.

The Currys have developed their brand of homegrown, harmony-rich Americana through summers of writing and performing on the Florida Gulf Coast. Brothers Jimmy and Tommy Curry and cousin Galen Curry began with acoustic performances in local restaurants and oyster bars, but over time the trio has gained a regional following, performing regularly at festivals and venues around the southeast. In August 2012, The Currys headlined a tour across Ireland which was the subject of a PBS documentary. The following year, the three Currys teamed up with bassist Matt Kauper and drummer Johnny Humphreys to track their debut record, financing the process with a successful Kickstarter campaign. Released in the spring of 2014, the resulting album, “Follow,” is a testament to the countless hours spent in musical symbiosis, shaping the words and melodies of three distinct singer/songwriters into one cohesive voice.

"Folk has re-invented itself over the past decade or so, but The Curry’s (sic) organic, stringed tones ring true - they’re the real deal, and their grassroots support base validates this sentiment," reviewed The Doughnut Magazine. Middle Tennessee Music agreed writing, “These guys have some serious talent. Beautiful, harmonious vocals pour over you as you tap and sway along with the music."
