Morningside Nature Center, Park and Living History Farm Closed from April 30-May 2
Notice: Park and Living History Farm Closed Today for Prescribed Burn.
As part of the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Park Affairs Department Nature Operation Division’s routine land management practices, a prescribed burn is scheduled for today, April 29, 2021, weather and site conditions permitting, at Morningside Nature Center, 3540 East University Avenue, beginning at 10 AM and ending before 5:00 P.M. This is an ecological fuel reduction burn, which will be conducted with support from the Florida Forest Service. All public access to the park and living history farm will be prohibited during the burn. Land management activities are ongoing and all public access to the park and living history farm will be prohibited from April 30-May 2.
Information about the burn is being made available to the local media. In an effort to promote public safety, and to restore and maintain the health of our natural resources, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs staff work closely with the Florida Forest Service (FFS), the University of Florida (UF), Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), as well as the Gainesville Police and Fire Rescue departments.
