Free Fridays Concert Series Presents California Dreaming by Other Voices and Friends on July 19

The band Other Voices and Friends will present California Dreaming, a tribute to the early Laurel County music scene on Friday, July 19 as part of the Free Fridays concert series. In the late ‘60s, some of the best musicians of their generation took up residence in Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon, a mountainous neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills. California Dreaming plays tribute to some of those artists with covers of The Mamas and the Papas, The Byrds, The Monkees, Linda Ronstadt, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Other Voices has been delighting fans for 18 years with a winning combination of instrumental chops and exquisite vocal harmonies. This Gainesville acoustic quartet features an eclectic mix of genres with their own songwriting, and also mines a rich vein of vintage pop songs. The band includes Fagan Arouh (guitar and vocals), Dan Tampas (guitar and vocals), Michelle Ott (vocals and hand percussion) and Alan Hill (bass). Joining the quartet for this Laurel Canyon tribute are Brad Bangstad (keyboards and vocals) and Rob Rothschild (drums), both from several other noted local bands, including The Impostors and The Relics.

The California Dreaming concert is one of the select “Free Fridays” classic rock concerts that are sponsored by classic rock radio station WIND-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9).

“Free Fridays” is presented by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and funded in part by a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.
