City’s Regional Transit System Releasing New Transit App

9/30/2021

The City of Gainesville’s Regional Transit System (RTS) is set to launch a new transit app – GNVRideRTS – on Oct. 1, and provide public transit passengers with a more efficient and user-friendly interface for planning daily commutes.

GNVRideRTS currently is available for download at www.RideRTS.app for Apple, Android and desktop use. Developed by transit-based app developer, Clever Devices, GNVRideRTS will replace the current transit app.

Passengers will be able to identify bus routes and bus stop locations, check arrival times at bus stops, and access current bus locations via GPS. Using the “Trip Planner” feature, riders can choose among routes based on those with fewer bus transfers or less walking.

In addition, GNVRideRTS features:

  • real-time updates on route detours;
  • access to traffic reports;
  • a drag-and-drop rider icon to access “Street View” photos of a specific location; and
  • a subscription service for bus stop updates via email and text messaging.

RTS officials collaborated with Clever Devices, beginning in 2020, to create the new app to seamlessly sync with RTS operations, administrative and public platforms following an upgrade in the RTS fleet’s systems software.
