Mosquito Control will Conduct Nighttime Spraying for Mosquitoes

Due to the recent rain events, mosquito populations have increased dramatically and City of Gainesville Mosquito Control will begin night time spraying next week.

Mosquito populations are being monitoring daily, there are some areas that mosquito populations have increased substantially. Therefore we will be conducting night time treatment in the areas where a large population of adult mosquitoes is demonstrated by either a quantifiable increase in, or a sustained elevated, mosquito population level as detected by our surveillance methods and/or service requests.

Residents are urged to remember the five Ds to protect themselves and their family from mosquitoes:

  • Dusk to Dawn – avoid mosquito mealtimes in the early evening and morning hours
  • Dress Wisely – wear light-colored clothing that covers exposed skin
  • DEET – use repellents containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus
  • Drainage – check your yard for any standing water

Mosquito Control also offers Gambusia mosquito fish to Gainesville residents for placement in drainage areas and ponds for free. Please call 352-393-8287 for more information.
