The “Free Fridays” Concert Series Presents Morningbell on Sept. 13

Morningbell is Gainesville's own melodic, multi-layered, psychedelic rock quartet. The band has rooted themselves as a well-established tradition in the Florida music scene and beyond. They return to “Free Fridays” at Bo Diddley Plaza in downtown Gainesville Friday, Sept. 13 from 8-10 p.m. Morningbell has been critically-acclaimed and featured at Bonnaroo, MTV's The Real World Sydney, Blender Magazine, Pitchfork Media, The Washington Post and Americana UK.

According to band member Travis Atria, “Morningbell has spent 15 years traveling, sometimes literally touring the country, sometimes metaphorically tearing through genres and styles over the course of six albums and half a dozen EPs. But, Gainesville has always been and will always be the band's home.”

Morningbell features Travis Atria (guitar, vocals), Eric Atria (bass), Stacie Atria (keyboards) and Chris Hillman (drums). They are a little bit rock and roll, a little bit soul, and a little bit everything else, with influences ranging from The Beatles and The Flaming Lips, to Curtis Mayfield and Al Green, to bossa nova and world music. All of these influences can be heard on the band's tour de force album, “Sincerely, Severely,” which iTunes called "impossible to classify or resist." At their “Free Fridays” concert, Morningbell is releasing a limited-edition, remixed/remastered 10th Anniversary LP of the album. The band will also perform the album in its entirety for the first time.

"Free Fridays” is presented by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, and funded in part by a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council. The entire “Free Fridays” 2019 schedule may be viewed at  The Bo Diddley Plaza is located at 111 E. University Ave. in downtown Gainesville.
