The “Free Fridays” Concert Series Presents a Tribute to ‘70s Progressive Rock on Aug. 30.

The Progressive Rock Experience pays tribute to ‘70s progressive rock at Bo Diddley Plaza in downtown Gainesville Friday, Aug. 30 from 8-10 p.m.

The band, put together by Brad Bangstad (keyboards) especially for a “Free Fridays” concert last year, was such a success that they are back again this year by popular demand! Joining Bangstad are Rob Rothschild (drums), David Ottenberg (bass), Linda Griffith (lead vocals), Shuri Pass (lead vocals), Don David (lead vocals/guitar), Fagan Arouh (guitar) and Aaron Culverson (violin).

Progressive rock grew in popularity in the ‘60s and ‘70s, employing compositional techniques used in classical or jazz music, and often highlighting instrumental and/or vocal virtuosity. The playlist for the concert includes songs by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Deep Purple, Genesis, Kansas, Styx, Head East, Supertramp, Uriah Heep, Eric Carmen/Raspberries and Elton John.

Bangstad says, “Not all of these songs are progressive rock, but still great rock anthems mostly from the 1970s.  A lot of these songs are technically challenging, and really stretches our musical abilities.”

The Progressive Rock Experience concert is one of the select “Free Fridays” classic rock concerts that are sponsored by classic rock radio station WIND-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9).
