City Employees Assist Needy Families with Toys, Bikes, Clothing and Food
City of Gainesville employees and supporters of Gainesville's Little Ones (GLO) will provide approximately 19 needy families with toys, clothing and food this holiday season. Thanks to the time and dedication of the city employees and their families and friends, GLO has assisted nearly 1,000 disadvantaged families over the past 39 years.
Gainesville's Little Ones is a charitable organization supported by City of Gainesville employees and local businesses to help needy families during the holiday season. The Department of Children and Families and Children's Medical Services/Gator Kids selected the families to receive donated holiday gifts including toys, clothing and household necessities.
Employees from many city departments and divisions each provide for a family in need. Gainesville Fire Rescue employees donated funds to purchase 44 new bikes. Other sponsors include Florida Food Service, Florida Department of Transportation Pedestrian & Bicycling Safety Resource Center, Smokin T’s BBQ Shack and Walmart.
The gifts will be distributed at the GLO luncheon Saturday, Dec. 9 at Thelma Boltin Center. Santa and arts and crafts, will entertain the children. Smokin T’s BBQ Shack is catering the event, with a turkey dinner and all the fixings. The Gainesville Police Department Explorers will help with event setup, cleanup and handing out toys, bikes and food, including a frozen turkey and a box of food for each of the families.
