City Accepting Applications to Gainesville 101: the 2017 Citizens' Academy


Residents or students interested in a crash course on local government and city planning and management need look no further than the City of Gainesville itself. Gainesville 101: the 2017 Citizens' Academy is a seven-week program organized by the City of Gainesville Communications Office, and is designed to teach city residents about the inner workings of local government and city management.

Thirty people will be accepted into the program, which teaches residents about the city through hands-on, interactive sessions. Participants will go behind the scenes and experience the operations of city departments that provide infrastructure, parks service, utilities, public safety and a variety of other services.

Classes begin Wednesday, March 15 and meet every Wednesday for seven consecutive weeks through April 26. All sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at various locations throughout the city, such as the Traffic Management Center and Morningside Nature Center.

Gainesville 101 is open to any interested resident, but enrollment is limited to 30 people. Reservations for Gainesville 101 will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. If space is unavailable, residents will be notified and placed on a waiting list for the next session.
