The City of Gainesville’s department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs has scheduled a phased reopening of the city’s pools beginning Monday, June 8. City staff members have installed Plexiglas shields at front desks and implemented strict social distancing and sanitation protocols to maintain public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool will be temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance and improvements on the dive tower from Monday, Feb. 11-Friday, Feb. 15. Due to safety considerations, the pool must also be closed during this work. If there is any delay in work, the pool closure may be extended into the weekend of Feb. 16-17.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is facilitating the installation of geothermal pumps at H. Spurgeon Cherry “Westside” Pool. Work will begin the week of Aug. 6, and it is anticipated that the pumps will come online in November 2018. Service to the pool will not be disrupted.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) draws another successful Summer Heatwave program to a close by featuring two great events. Several coed basketball championship games will be played Thursday, Aug. 2 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center (MLK) and a Back-to-School Pool Party will take place at Andrew R. Mickle Sr. Pool Sunday, Aug. 5.
