Albert “Ray” Massey (Westside) Park (1001 NW 34th St.) is going to the dogs for a whole weekend of family fun! The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) has partnered with University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine (UFCVM) and Climb for Cancer Foundation to bring three dog-centered events together for Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is excited for the first race of the 2017 Gainesville Dash and Splash Summer Series! This year’s series features some new routes and different formats for each race.

The first race takes place Saturday, June 24 at Depot Park, which is located at 200 SE Depot Ave. This race starts at the park, with a running route of 1.5 miles along the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail to the Andrew R. Mickle Sr. Pool for a 300-yard swim, then a return run back to Depot Park.

The schedule for the race series is:

Don’t wait - sprint to enter! When you register early (more than two days before the race), you’ll save money and receive a unique t-shirt for each race. The entry fee for each race for early registration (more than two days before the race) is only $18.25 for city residents and $24.25 for non-residents. After early registration ends, the fees are $24.25 for city residents and $36.25 for non-residents. Proof of residency, a GRU bill or voter ID card is required at time of registration.

On Thursday, June 22 at 10 a.m., thousands of children and adults are invited to unite at aquatics facilities around the world to set a new global record for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). The City of Gainesville is proud to be one of the nation’s top water safety and training organizations that joins forces with worldwide participants in order to foster education on the vital importance of swimming lessons that aid drowning prevention. The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is joining Team WLSL to once again break a world record and send the message that swimming lessons save lives. The global record attempt takes place at three Gainesville locations: Andrew R. Mickle Pool, Dwight H. Hunter (Northeast) Pool and H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool.

With the summer heating up, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) has cool, free teen programs to keep the fun going all season long. Summer Heatwave is back with Coed Basketball, a Teen Lounge and Pool Parties!
