Advisory Board and Committee Openings

The Gainesville City Commission is pleased to receive applications for consideration to the following boards/committees. Applications from previous application cycles will not be considered; all applicants must submit an application during the current cycle. Applications may be picked up and submitted in person or online.

Police Advisory Council - city residency required (new board)

Applications must be received in the Office of the Clerk of the Commission by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 (11:59 p.m. if applying online).

The city commission shall appoint 11 members to the Police Advisory Council. Council members shouldbe reflective of the racial, age, socio-economic and geographic diversity of the city. All members’ permanent residence shall be within the municipal corporate limits of the City of Gainesville, Florida. Current employees of the city’s police department are not eligible to serve on the council.

Each member shall be appointed to a four-year term. However, to establish staggered terms, three initial appointees shall be appointed to a two-year term, four initial appointees shall be appointed to a three-year term and four initial appointees shall be appointed to a four-year term.

It is the intent of the city commission to create, empower, staff, and fund a police advisory council whose purpose is to study the city’s police department, gather information, receive community input concerning public safety issues and law enforcement needs and concerns, and make policy recommendations to the city regarding all aspects of the delivery of public safety services with the goal of maintaining a safe city that enjoys a strong, positive and trusting relationship between the community and the city police department.

  • Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Board (2 terms: 1 ending Dec. 31, 2021 and 1 ending Dec. 31, 2023)
  • Development Review Board (1 student term ending Sept. 30, 2021)
  • Gainesville Human Rights Board (1 student term ending Sept. 20, 2021)
  • Historic Preservation Board (5 full terms ending June 1, 2023, 1 student term ending Sept. 20, 2021)
  • SHIP - Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (3 full terms ending July 1, 2022)
  • Student Community Relations Board (1 voting student full term ending Sept. 30, 2021, 1 voting non-student full term ending Sept. 30, 2022, 1 student term ending Sept. 30, 2021)

City Residency Not Required
