About the program
The City of Gainesville Youth Forum invites high school students from across Gainesville to share their experiences, ideas and concerns with policy leaders. City Commissioners and other local officials will lead small-group discussions about a variety of issues including:
- After school, recreation, cultural activities
- Community violence
- Sustainability, climate change
- Mental health
- Racial equity
- Transportation and getting around
- Youth civic activism
- Student job opportunities & training
- Gender, LGBTQIA+ Equity
- Access to technology
The forum aims to establish a tradition of youth political activism; inspire students to champion solutions to difficult challenges facing their community; and promote the free and open exchange of ideas.
Who is eligible to participate?
Registration is open to all students who live or go to school within Gainesville city limits. Space is limited, and priority will be given to 11th and 12th graders and those who may not often have the opportunity to share their stories.
