The Human Rights Board, authorized by the City of Gainesville Code of Ordinances,
Chapter 8, is composed of seven members appointed by the City Commission. The membership,
which should be representative of the City’s population, is charged with hearing complaints
of discrimination brought to it by the Office of Equal Opportunity.
The Citizens’ Disability Advisory Committee, authorized by City Policy No. 34—Disability
Policy—is composed of persons selected by the Equal Opportunity Director. Members
are appointed annually and are either individuals with disabilities or have some experience
working with or expertise about persons who are disabled. This committee acts as an
advisory group to the Equal Opportunity Director.
