Adopt-A-Street Program

The City of Gainesville voluntary Adopt-A-Street Program was formed to help address the problem of roadside litter in our city. Today, there are 30 groups participating in the program and 40.75 miles of city streets have been adopted.

Any company, organization, group or citizen in Gainesville can apply to adopt up to a two-mile section of a city street. Each group must commit to remove litter at least six times each year, remain in the program for at least two years, and attend a safety briefing. The City will provide safety vests, plastic bags, gloves, a first aid kit, traffic control signs, and litters sticks for the litter removal. City workers will collect the plastic bags of trash and large items gathered by the volunteers.

After your first cleanup, a sign with the name of each Adopt-A-Street group' will be posted at both ends of the adopted street section after your first cleanup. Also, each group that completes their six cleanups per year may have a Proclamation from the Mayor and City Commission to recognize the volunteer group for their contribution and commitment to reducing litter.
