The City of Gainesville offers employees financial security during retirement through:

  • A pension planOpens in new window with contributions by the employee and the City that provides a lifetime benefit at retirement with vesting after 5 years (10 years for Police and Fire). Full retirement eligibility upon completion of 20 years of credited service, regardless of age.
  • DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan) provides added flexibility to your pension plan.
  • Deferred compensation planOpens in new window that allows voluntary employee contributions through a variety of investment vehicles with pretax income. You may contribute up to 100% of your pretax pay, up to $12,000 per year.
