Veterans Preference
Veterans are encouraged to apply. Preference in initial appointment will be given to eligible veterans and their spouses. Applicants claiming Veterans Preference must do so by submitting appropriate documentation and indicating if they have every been employed by the State of Florida or any political subdivision.

Information regarding Veterans' Preference documentation can be obtained from the City of Gainesville Human Resources Department. If you are claiming Veterans' Preference, you must attach a copy of page 2 or 4 of your DD214 to be granted this consideration. Applications/Resumes and DD214's must be received by the closing date of the position you are applying for. The burden is on the applicant to provide all pertinent information. If any applicant claiming Veterans' Preference for a vacant position is not selected for the position, they may file a complaint with the Division of Veterans' Affairs, 11351 Ulmerton Rd., Ste. 311-K, Largo, FL 33776. A complaint must be filed within 21 days after notice of hiring decision. If notice of hiring decision is not given, a complaint may be filed within three months of closing date of position.) If a position is Open Until Filled, your DD214 and/or Typing, Word & Excel scores are to be submitted to Human Resources by 5:00 p.m. within seven days from the date you applied. Pursuant to Florida Public Records Law, applications/resumes are subject to public review; therefore, applications requesting confidentiality will be returned to the applicant. Candidates may be required to undergo drug (and possibly alcohol) testing, a physical examination and a complete background check.
