By Bus
Interstate bus transportation is offered by Greyhound Trailways . Local area bus services are provided by the Regional Transit System (RTS), which also offers mini-bus transportation for people who are disabled.
The Regional Transit System (RTS) is a division of the City of Gainesville's Public Works Department. RTS currently operates a fleet of approximately 85 diesel buses for fixed route services and 7 vans, used for demand response transportation. RTS added two (2) Hybrid Diesel/Electric buses to the fleet in June 2002, and is currently testing and collecting data on the hybrids to evaluate their performance in our community. Eighteen (18) fixed routes serve the City of Gainesville and contiguous portions of unincorporated Alachua County. Additional services are operated on the campus of the University of Florida (UF) under contract to the University. Currently ATC/Intelitran provides ADA paratransit services to RTS under contract.
Fixed route services provide transportation to more than 7 million riders annually. The cost of a full fare is $1.00, Senior Citizens /Disabled (Medicare/Medicaid) fares are $.50, student fares are $.50 and children shorter than the farebox are free. ADA certified individuals can ride any RTS fixed route service for free -- just show your valid ADA card. If you are unable to use the fixed route service, RTS offers complementary door-to-door paratransit service to ADA certified passengers for $2 per trip. To schedule an appointment call the day before a trip is required. Call 384-9774 Sunday through Friday from 8am - 5pm. Designated UF students, faculty, and staff with a Gator-1 card enjoy prepaid, unlimited access anywhere and anytime that RTS operates, except on Special Services such as Gator Aider, etc.
Visit the RTS Website at http://www.go-rts.com/ for more information.
