The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is pleased to offer a free basketball clinic with the coaching staff from the Eastside High School Basketball team at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose (MLK) Center. The clinics are open to everyone, and are a great opportunity for those wishing to participate in PRCA’s Youth Coed Basketball league and hone their skills.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is proud to announce that Cheer Coach Beverly Perry was awarded the Female Coach of the Year by the Pop Warner Southeastern Region at the Southeast Region Meeting held in Orlando, Fla. Saturday, March 14. Receiving this award is a great honor and privilege not only for Ms. Perry, but also for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Putnam Athletic League. Coach Perry has been coaching the Gainesville Gators (Putnam League) for approximately 26 years.

On Dec. 12, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s (PRCA) Pop Warner Cheerleading squad, the Gator Midgets placed first in their division at the National Cheer and Dance Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex™ in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Not only did the squad win the title, they received the Spirit of Sportsmanship Award.

On Nov. 29, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s (PRCA) Pop Warner Cheerleading squads, the Gator Midgets placed first in the Regional Championships in Orlando, Florida. This is the second year a squad from the City of Gainesville has taken the regional title!

During the first week of December, the Eastside High School Basketball team will be providing a skills clinic and Free Throw Contest will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose (MLK) Center.

The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is getting geared up for another season of great games for Youth Coed Basketball. Through fitness, fair play and sportsmanship, the program teaches youth, ages 5–14, how character counts on and off the court. There are no try outs, and each participant gets to play.

Score more fun and fitness with Pop Warner Football or Cheerleading! The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department provides a great opportunity to be active and learn with Pop Warner sports. We teach our youth that character counts! We teach fairness, caring, citizenship, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness, while focusing on academic achievement.

To celebrate a great year in basketball, the City of Gainesville is asking citizens to donate $4, $40 or $400 to support a summer basketball program for Gainesville youth.
