The Gainesville City Commission will host its second Telephone Town Hall, talkGNV, to discuss the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s (PRCA) master plan, PRCA Vision 2020. City officials will answer caller questions about the master plan, including future enhancements to Gainesville’s park facilities and recreation opportunities, as well as discuss potential funding methods.

Please be advised that the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is working with a private contractor to place a new sidewalk and crosswalk to the parking lot at Albert "Ray" Massey (Westside) Park, located at 1001 NW 34th St. The work will start Monday, Aug. 3, and is expected to last about two weeks. The hours of work are 10 p.m.-8 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. The contractor is working at night to minimize the impact to the parks vehicle and pedestrian traffic; some noise can be expected.

The City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will be conducting a prescribed burn at Morningside Nature Center, 3540 East University Avenue today, Wednesday March 4, 2015, as part of routine land management activities. If conditions remain favorable, approximately 19.5 acres are scheduled for an ecological fuel reduction burn. The Morningside Nature Center and Living History Farm will be closed to visitors during the burn. The Barnyard Buddies Program will not take place today, will resume next week.

The City of Gainesville Parks Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is holding the dedication of the newly renovated Smokey Bear Park, located at 2300 NE 15th St., Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 3-4:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the dedication to experience the new features and bring together the community spirit that makes parks like Smokey Bear special. With the freezing temperatures predicted this week, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will continuously run its backflow preventers throughout the parks and facilities system. This means that the irrigation systems continuously drip in order to prevent freezing, which can damage the irrigation components. The backflow preventers are set to drip from the afternoon of Wednesday, Jan. 7, through the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 8.
