The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is getting geared up for another season of great games for Youth Coed Basketball. Through fitness, fair play and sportsmanship, the program teaches youth, ages 5–14, how character counts on and off the court. There are no try outs, and each participant gets to play.

The Gainesville Gator Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee and Midget cheer squads will be advancing to the Regional cheer Championship in Orlando Florida, November 27-30, 2014.

Join the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department for a Drool and Ghoul Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest and Pool Party Saturday, Oct. 25, from 12-2 p.m. This annual event is open to well-behaved dogs at the H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool, which is located at 1001 NW 31st Dr. The pool and splash pad will be open to dogs, and there will be a costume contest, photos with your pet(s) and great local pet-business vendors and free dog baths!

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust (APPT), the Gainesville-Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board (CAB), the Nature Centers Commission (NCC) and the Public Recreation and Parks Board (PRPB), is seeking nominations for the Arts Awards, STAR Awards and the Albert “Ray” Massey Citizen Volunteer Awards for citizens who have made outstanding efforts to promote cultural and arts activities, environmental awareness and recreational activities in 2014.

Join the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department to make the Drool & Ghoul Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest and Pool Party totally paw-some! This annual event takes place Saturday, Oct. 25, from 12-2 p.m. and is open to well-behaved dogs at the H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool, which is located at 1001 NW 31st Dr. The pool and splash pad will be open to dogs, and there will be a costume contest, photos with pet(s) and great local pet-business vendors and free dog baths! Admission to the event is $5 or a seven-pound or more bag of dog food. Proof of immunizations is required.

Barnyard Buddies will be canceled for Wednesday, October 01, 2014 due to construction on the barn roof at Morningside Nature Center’s Living History Farm. The program is expected to run next week at its regular weekly time, 3:00 pm on Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience.
