The City of Gainesville celebrates Black History Month with a double bill concert at Bo Diddley Plaza Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. The concert features the bands Dr. Neu & BluJaFunk, featuring renowned trumpeter Longineu Parsons plus Billy Buchanan & his Rock 'n Soul Revue. The public is invited to bring their blankets and lawn chairs to the beautiful downtown amphitheater and enjoy this free world-class concert that celebrates many of the great pioneer artists of Black music.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is pleased to announce the Gainesville Arts & Parks Foundation (GAP), a 501(c)3, which was founded in 2015 to support the department, has received a $50,000 endowment gift from the Arts Association of Alachua County (AAAC) honoring the late arts leader Doris Bardon.

Celebrate with us as the City of Gainesville celebrates its 34th year as a Tree City USA. Commissioner Harvey Budd will be reading the proclamation at the event. We will plant 68 shade trees to honor these 34 years.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is extending the opportunity to interested residents to give their feedback on future plans for the Clarence R. Kelly Community Center (Blue Center) and Park, which is located at 1700 NE Eighth Ave. and Duval Park, located at 520 NE 21st St. in Gainesville. To date, the city has received 110 completed surveys, but hopes to get another 50 before the new Jan. 16 deadline.

Due to inclement weather, Barnyard Buddies at Morningside Nature Center will be cancelled today, January 3, 2018. To protect the farm animals, they are being kept as warm and dry as possible. The program is expected to return at its regular time next Wednesday, January 10, at 3 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience to our visitors.
