Spring Promenade House Tour Returns:

The Thomas Center Associates is hosting the Spring Promenade from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 7.

The tour of historic homes in the Duckpond neighborhood features six houses of various sizes and one beautifully remodeled historic house that is now a business. Transportation by van will be available, although the sites are all within easy walking distance. Tickets cost $15, and may be purchased on the day of the event at the Historic Thomas Center.

On Thursday, March 5, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Gainesville-Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board, the Nature Centers Commission, the Public Recreation and Parks Board and Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust, will present the Arts Awards, Star Awards, Albert “Ray” Massey Citizen Volunteer Award and the Public Art Award to citizens who have made outstanding efforts to promote cultural and arts activities, environmental awareness and recreational activities in 2014.

Don’t strike out - it’s not too late to sign up for adult softball! Registration for the City Of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s Adult Softball League closes Thursday, Feb. 26. Open team spots are available for the Monday Men’s and Friday Coed Leagues. Joining a softball league is a great opportunity for office workers, church groups and other organizations to network, have fun and meet new friends!

Construction Notice: A fence will be installed around the track and field facility at Fred Cone Park, located at 2841 NE University Ave. The work is expected to commence on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, and will be completed by the end of the week. The track will remain open for use during this time. For more information on the project, please call 352-334-5067.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department are happy to announce the upcoming habitat restoration projects at Boulware Springs Nature Park, located at 3300 SE 15th St., and at Sweetwater Preserve, located at 95 SE Williston Rd. The long-term goal of the restoration is to bring back the former sandhill habitat, and restore biodiversity to the site. This work begins Monday, Feb.16, with the removal of hardwood trees that are not native to the sandhill habitat.
