The hot water heater at Dwight H. Hunter (Northeast) Pool has been replaced and the hot water has been restored for showers. We thank patrons for their patience while the repairs were being made.

As part of the City of Gainesville, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, Nature Operation’s land management practices, a prescribed burn is scheduled for today, weather and site conditions permitting, at Morningside Nature Center, 3540 East University Avenue, beginning at 11:00 AM and ending before 5:00 P.M. This is an ecological fuel reduction burn, which will be conducted with support from the Florida Forest Service. All public access to the park and living history farm will be prohibited during the burn. Information about the burn is being made available to the local media. In an effort to promote public safety, and to restore and maintain the health of our natural resources, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs staff work closely with the Florida Forest Service (FFS), the University of Florida (UF), Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), as well as the Gainesville Police and Fire Rescue departments.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department has launched a county-wide public survey as part of the cultural planning initiative it is spearheading. Over the next 90 days, through an extensive public awareness campaign, the community at large, artists, creative individuals and organizations providing arts and cultural activities are being asked to go to to answer a brief online survey which will help create the “352ArtsRoadmap.”

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department needs six volunteer football coaches for Pop Warner Football. We teach our youth that character counts - teaching fairness, caring, citizenship, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness, while focusing on academic achievement.
