Gainesville Knights and Pop Warner Unite

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is excited to announce that the Gainesville Knights, a nine to12 year-old division football team, has joined together with our Pop Warner Football program! This brand new team combines coaching efforts, and the team will be known as the Gainesville Gators Pee Wee Team.

This team is a pilot program that will be using Riddell Insite helmet technology and Concussion Protocol in order to ensure the best experience for all participants. Riddell Insite Impact Response System is helmet-based, impact-monitoring technology designed to alert the participant when significant single or multiple impacts are sustained during a football game or practice. This new technology and protocol, combined with USA Heads Up, helps enhance the overall safety of the game and the well-being of each individual player wearing a Riddell Insite helmet.

The team is limited to the first 25 players due to the number of Riddell Insite helmets available. This pilot team, coupled with advanced safety technology, creates an incredible opportunity for your child. Don’t delay - there are only 10 registration spots left on this team.

Registration ends at the close of day Thursday, Aug. 18, or until the spots are filled.  The cost is $100.75 for city residents (GRU bill or voter ID card required) and $150.75 for non-city residents.

The Pee Wee division weight limits are 75 to 130 lbs. for age nine-11, and 75 to 110 lbs. for age 12. All participants must meet Pop Warner’s scholastic requirements throughout the season to remain eligible.

Practice time is from 6-8 p.m. during the week, and it will be held at the Northeast Field, which is behind the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center, located at1028 NE 14th St.

Games are on Saturdays - the first game of the season is Saturday, Sept. 3. The season is estimated to end the first week of November, unless playoffs are achieved.
