The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shakerag Culture Center, Inc., is pleased to announce the next Jewel Box Summer Concert at the Historic Thomas Center. The next concert in the series is Friday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. featuring The Gatorbone Band. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door the day of the show (cash or check only).
The Gatorbone Band features Gabriel Valla on guitar, mandolin and vocals; Jason Thomas on fiddle and mandolin; Lis Williamson on rhythm guitar, frailing banjo and vocals and Lon Williamson on upright bass and vocals. Valla, Thomas and Williamson are also songwriters and their tunes are a vital part of the Gatorbone sound.
Gabriel Valla won the Merle Watson Festival Flatpicking Championship when he was 16 years old, and has evolved to become one of the premier flatpicking musicians in today’s acoustic world. Valla has produced and released several albums, including “Union” with virtuoso guitarist Sam Pacetti.
Jason Thomas is a Canadian Open Mandolin Champion, as well as a two-time Florida State Champion on both fiddle and mandolin. Thomas has been in a regular house band at Disney World for more than a decade and wears many hats in the music world, including Celtic bluegrass and folk.
Lis Williamson is a renowned, award-winning songwriter whose musical skills and incredible voice are the forefront of The Gatorbone Band. Her album “Deep” has gained high praise in the music industry. Although the band plays folk, Americana and swing music, most of the original songs they perform are written by Williamson.
Lon Williamson is the band’s director and his virtuoso bass playing is the foundation for The Gatorbone Band’s music. He's also a renowned songwriter, and is the engineer behind the Gatorbone recording studio frequented by some of the industries finest players.
