The Band Other Voices Pays Tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young at "Free Fridays" May 27

5/18/2016

Other Voices has been delighting fans for the past 15 years with a winning combination of instrumental chops and exquisite vocal harmonies. This Gainesville acoustic quartet features an eclectic mix of genres with their own songwriting, and also mines a rich vein of vintage pop songs, best exemplified by their rendition of “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” a showcase of stellar harmonies and accomplished guitar playing that has brought audiences to their feet. It was audience reactions to that song that inspired the group to perform an entire concert featuring the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

The American-based band, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, is a rock super group that was one of the most successful and influential recording and touring groups from the late ‘60s through the early ‘80s. It is made up of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young. All four members of CSNY are two-time inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The core band of Other Voices is comprised of Fagan Arouh (guitar/vocals), Michelle Ott (vocals/ hand percussion), Dan Tampas (guitar/vocals) and Alan Hill (bass).  Augmenting the band will be guest musicians Brad Bangstad (keyboards/vocals) and Rob Rothschild (drums), both from several other noted local bands, including The Impostors and The Relics.

The Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tribute is also one of the select “Free Fridays” classic rock concerts that is sponsored by classic rock radio station WIND-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9).

The 2016 “Free Fridays” concert series is produced by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. This concert series has been funded in part by a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners, in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council, and a grant from the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. Providing the band hospitality food in the green room for the May 27 concert is Omi’s Kitchen. The concerts play each Friday night from Friday, May 6 through Friday, Oct. 21 from 8-10 p.m. at the Bo Diddley Plaza, which is located at 111 E. University Ave. To view the complete “Free Fridays” 2016 schedule, please visit www.gvlculturalaffairs.org.
