Qualify for a Great Summer Job with an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

Do you want to qualify for a rewarding and fun summer job? As the warm months approach, qualified lifeguards are a vital part of making local aquatic facilities safe and accessible for guests. The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is proud to offer American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification courses.

The lifeguarding courses are for those 15 years and older. The registration fee is $175, which includes books and materials. Participants must be able to successfully complete all American Red Cross assessments with an 80 percent or higher to receive certification, which is valid for two years. This course has pre-requisites to ensure successful completion. Please review them at Please note that receipt of a certification does not guarantee placement in a summer job with the City of Gainesville.

A lifeguard recertification class is also offered for current American Red Cross lifeguards who need to renew their certification. If a certification has already expired, the full lifeguard course must be taken. The recertification course fee is $90; books and materials are provided for class-use only. Participants must present their current Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications the first day of class.

Several jobs now require Adult/Pediatrics First Aid/CPR/AED certifications to keep workplaces safe. Courses are offered for those 11 years and older, with a registration fee of $60 which includes books and materials.
