Announcing Jeff Cardozo as Golf Course Manager

2/11/2016

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is proud to announce that Jeff Cardozo has accepted the position as golf course manager at Ironwood Golf Course. Cardozo was selected after the department had an extensive recruitment plan in order to get the most diverse and experienced applicants to apply. After receiving more than 70 applications, the department narrowed the pool of applications down to the final round of interviews, and Cardozo was the most qualified and selected for the position.

Recently, Cardozo led the effort to maintain sanctuary status on Ironwood Golf Course. The course was first designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 1999, and continues to be one of 897 courses in the world to currently be designated as such.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, Mexico and Southeast Asia have achieved certification in the program.

“Ironwood is also the hub for many fundraising efforts; it is as a rental destination for social functions, and is an important travel destination for business visitors that travel in and out of the airport!” says PRCA Director Steve Phillips. “Jeff continues to do an amazing job!”

Cardozo attended the University of Florida, and hosts the weekly television show "Gatorzone," which broadcasts nationally on Fox Sports Sun. He is a part of the radio broadcast teams for both football and baseball games for the Gator IMG Sports Network, as well as the public address announcer for several sports inside the Steven C. O'Connell Center.

Cardozo joined Ironwood Golf Course in 2001, and has held various positions over the years. Throughout his tenure at Ironwood, he has showed a love for helping the Gainesville community, a passion for growing the game of golf and has created an environment where everyone is welcome to explore and enjoy recreation at the golf course.

Cardozo has devoted his career to sports, educating and inspiring new golfers and has been active in many professional and civic organizations throughout north central Florida. His experiences make him exceptionally well-qualified to provide leadership to our beloved golf course.
