City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is Seeking Outstanding Citizen Contribution

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust (APPT), the Gainesville-Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board (CAB), the Nature Centers Commission (NCC) and the Public Recreation and Parks Board (PRPB), is seeking nominations for the Arts Awards, Star Awards and the Albert “Ray” Massey Citizen Volunteer Awards for citizens who have made outstanding efforts to promote cultural and arts activities, environmental awareness and recreational activities.

The Star Awards recognize citizens for their positive contribution to Gainesville’s natural environment. An individual, group, business or organization is eligible to be nominated. Nominees are accepted in three categories: Star Volunteer, Good Neighbor and Green Business. The nomination form can be downloaded here.

The City of Gainesville Public Recreation and Parks Board plans to recognize those exceptional volunteers who have contributed much of their time and energy to promoting recreational activities throughout Gainesville. Each year, the board plans to recognize two or three of these volunteers with the Albert “Ray” Massey Citizen Volunteer Award. The nomination for can be downloaded here.

The Gainesville-Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board Arts Awards recognize those individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts in our community.

  • Lennie Kesl Lifetime Arts Award is presented to an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the arts over a number of years.
  • Individual Arts Award is presented annually to an individual who has contributed significantly to the arts in the city and county in the last calendar year (2015).
  • Business Arts Award is presented to a business that has contributed significantly to the arts in the city and/or county by offering or sponsoring arts events.

The Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust Public Art Award recognizes those artists, art sponsors, other individuals and entities that have made significant contributions to the enhancement of the greater environment through public art. The nomination form can be downloaded here.

The Nature Centers Commission (NCC) and the Public Recreation and Parks Board (PRPB) nominations must be received by Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. The Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust Gainesville-Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board nominations must be received by Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015.

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, the awards presentations will begin with the reading of the proclamations by Gainesville Mayor Ed Braddy in the City Commission auditorium, which is located at City Hall, 200 E. University Ave., at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception at the Historic Thomas Center Building A, Spanish Court at 302 NE Sixth Ave.
