“Free Fridays” opening was delayed this year due to the closure of the Bo Diddley Community Plaza for renovations. The City of Gainesville has purchased a mobile stage which is being manufactured and will be delivered in late July. The mobile stage will be placed in parking lot no. 10 at the corner of Southwest Second Avenue and Southwest Second Street in downtown Gainesville. This is the same location that the Union Street Farmers Market occupies on Wednesdays.

In addition to providing a venue for “Free Fridays,” lot no. 10, with the mobile stage, will be available for rental as an alternate “Plaza” for those seeking a downtown location for outdoor events. After the Bo Diddley Community Plaza re-opens next spring, the mobile stage will be available for rentals for local and regional events and can be delivered to event site locations. It will also provide a venue that allows the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department to expand programming to outlying areas. According to “Free Fridays” Event Coordinator David Ballard, the trailer opens to a 14 foot by 36 foot elevated stage, complete with a roof, theatre lighting and electrical system that includes a built-in generator to power the unit when an electrical hook-up is not available.

To inquire about a rental, contact Special Events Coordinator Krystal Martin at 352-393-7527 or martinkr@cityofgainesville.org. For more information or to schedule an interview about the “Free Fridays” concert series, please contact David Ballard at 352-393-8746.
