John Weber Appointed as Parks Manager
The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is happy to announce the promotion of John Weber to Parks Manager.
Weber will be responsible for managing a staff more than 20 employees that make up the Park Operations team. This team also utilizes a supervised inmate crew to assist with many of our repetitive labor tasks. Some of the responsibilities of the Parks Operations Division include the care and upkeep of city-owned athletic fields, the playground safety inspection program, landscape maintenance in city parks and medians and maintenance of the irrigation systems within the city parks system.
“I feel that my team makes up a huge part of who I am,” said Parks Manager John Weber “The people behind the scenes, along with my guidance, are what make us the best we can be.” His passions in life are family, agriculture and soccer. His hobbies include exhibiting livestock, playing sports and enjoying the outdoors.
Weber lived in New Jersey before relocating to Florida in 1988. Prior to his service at the City of Gainesville, he spent 15 years in the commercial landscape industry. Since coming to work at the City of Gainesville in 2003, he has received certifications in playground safety inspections, backflow testing, aquatics facilities operator, and graduated from Park Maintenance Management School. Weber has worked on numerous capital construction projects, most notably Fred Cone and Smokey Bear Parks. Over the next few months, Weber will work with staff to address the needs of the department and his division.
