Bo Diddley Community Plaza Closed for Renovations
Bo Diddley Community Plaza has closed for renovations on Sunday, March 1. The improvements, which include new public restrooms, an information kiosk, a water wall entry feature, green room and a second café space, will take about one-year to complete.
The entire plaza will be closed during construction except for the historic Bethel Station property on the south end, which will reopen under new restaurant ownership in late spring.
Regularly-scheduled plaza events, such as the weekly Union Street Farmers Market, will be relocated a few blocks away to city-owned parking lot # 10, located on Southwest Second Street and Southwest First Avenue. The city's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is completing site preparation, such as tree trimming, general cleanup and electrical hookups for vendors.
Public restrooms are available at the adjacent Southwest Downtown Parking Garage, and will be open and staffed from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Public metered parking is available on streets adjacent to the site.
