10/16/2014

Join the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department for a Drool and Ghoul Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest and Pool Party Saturday, Oct. 25, from 12-2 p.m. This annual event is open to well-behaved dogs at the H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool, which is located at 1001 NW 31st Dr. The pool and splash pad will be open to dogs, and there will be a costume contest, photos with your pet(s) and great local pet-business vendors and free dog baths!

The costume contest will take place at 12:30 p.m. Come dressed to impress for a chance to win prizes in the following great categories: Best Dressed Dog & Owner Pair, Most Creative Dog Costume, Scariest/Funniest Dog Costume and Top Dog Grand Prize Costume. To enter your dog in the contest, please arrive no later than 12:15 p.m. Winners of the costume contest will be announced at 1 p.m., and must be present to win.

Admission to the event is $5 or a 7-pound or larger bag of dog food. Proof of immunizations is required. Donations at this event benefit the Alachua County Humane Society and other local animal organizations.

Please note that due to Health Department regulations, people will not be allowed to enter or swim in the pool with their dogs. This is the final event of the aquatic season and the pool will be thoroughly cleaned before it reopens on May 2, 2015. Lifeguards will be on duty; however, canine life-jackets are encouraged for additional safety.
