This year, the Cultural Affairs Board has added the new Emerging Artists Arts Award category to its standing Business Arts Award, the Individual Arts Award and the Lennie Kesl Lifetime Arts Award categories.

The Art in Public Places Trust Public Art Award is presented annually to an individual or entity who has exhibited powerful and meaningful public art works in Gainesville.

The Business Arts Award was created in 2009 to recognize a business that has made significant contributions to the arts community by offering or sponsoring arts events or supporting the efforts of artists and providing more opportunities for citizens of all ages to experience the arts.

The Individual Arts Award is presented annually to an individual or group who has significantly contributed to the arts in the city.

The Lennie Kesl Lifetime Arts Award is named after the late beloved Gainesville artist Lennie Kesl and recognizes an individual who has been involved for numerous years in providing sustained and significant contributions to the arts, art-related programming, support, advocacy, and more to the citizens and arts community in Gainesville over a number of years.

This year the Gainesville Cultural Affairs Board has established the Emerging Artists Arts Award to recognize promising artists in Gainesville who are making their mark in our community in the fields of digital, musical, performing, visual and written/spoken word arts. The purpose is to give a platform to emerging talent and to support artists at the beginning of their artistic journey. To be eligible for the award, artists must currently live in greater Gainesville and must have resided in the region at least one year at the time of nomination. This award recognizes evidence of innovation and a creative voice, as well as effective use of media and tools to bring the artist's vision to life.

The Art in Public Places Trust Public Art Award recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the enhancement of the greater environment through public art through the creation of significant pieces of public art and a dedication to public art in our community. Oakliana Caraballo was the recipient of the 2019 Public Art Award.
