Fred Cone Park Track and Infield Temporarily Closed Beginning May 6

4/30/2019

Fred Cone Park (2841 E University Avenue) will close the track and infield for drainage and turf improvements beginning May 6 through the fall.

Fred Cone Park has one of the few lit public sports fields in Gainesville. Currently, the field holds water which makes it unplayable for multiple days after significant rain events.  The City is improving drainage and turf on the field to use for youth league sporting events.  This project will cost $343,289 and is funded through the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax and the Capital Improvement Fund. Collected from January 2017 to December 2024, the sales tax will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities, and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands.
