Duval Park Closing March - July
Duval Park, which is located at 520 NE 21st St., will be closed beginning March 26 to complete the replacement of all of the boardwalks in the park. It is anticipated that the park will reopen in July 2019. During the construction, pedestrians are encouraged to use NE 25th St.
The boardwalks at Duval Park have been closed to the public since Hurricane Irma. Fallen trees coupled with severe wood rot created a safety hazard that was beyond the capacity of staff to repair. The Wild Spaces & Public Places Department has hired a contractor to begin boardwalk replacement. For public safety reasons, the entire park must be shut down while the work is taking place. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Park patrons are encouraged to utilize other parks while this work is taking place. For information on other nearby parks, please visit http://www.cityofgainesville.org/ParksRecreationCulturalAffairs/FindaParkorFacility.aspx.
The $476,266 project is funded through the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax. Collected from January 2017 to December 2024, the sales tax will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities, and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands.
