7th Annual Porters Back-to-School Summer Block Party on Aug. 11
Families in the Porters neighborhood will once again say goodbye to summer and hello to the new school year with a Back-to-School Summer Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 11.
Partnership for Progress with the Porters Community will host the seventh annual event from 4-7 p.m. at the Porters Community Center, located at 512 SW Second Ter. This year’s event features fun activities for all ages, including bounce houses, train rides, face painting, free food and a live performance by Mr. Philip “Jazzdad” Thomas.
Backpacks full of school supplies will be given to all school-aged children. “Our goal is to get kids excited about the upcoming fall semester and reduce the strain on parents’ wallets by providing free school supplies,” said Gigi Simmons, City Commissioner for District 1 and lifelong Porters resident. “This event brings families and the community together.”
School supply donations are being accepted through Thursday, Aug. 9 at the following locations:
- Gainesville CRA office, 802 NW Fifth Ave., #200
- Depot Park office, 1313 S. Main St.
- S & S Cleaners, 503 SW Third St.
