The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is pleased to offer another year of Foundations Academy. The after-school program takes place from Monday, Aug. 20–Friday, May 31, and is available at four convenient locations: Albert “Ray” Massey Recreation Center, Eastside Community Center, Clarence R. Kelly Community Center and Porters Community Center.
Because activities play a vital role in the development and well-being of children, Foundations Academy provides a fun-filled, educational experience for everyone. PRCA has adopted the Florida Recreation and Park Association initiatives for programming to include education, health, economic development, environmental sustainability and community building, in addition to the Six Pillars of Character, the core ethical values of CHARACTER COUNTS!: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Participants will be involved in various life-long recreational and educational activities, such as tutoring, tennis, art and crafts, basketball, board games, bowling, volunteerism, citizenship and more.
The fees for Foundations Academy are $18.50 per week for city residents and $27.50 per week for those living outside of the city limits. This affordable after-school enrichment program is available Monday through Friday from 2-6 p.m. The program is not offered on official holidays recognized by the City of Gainesville.
Scholarships are available at all locations. Full scholarships are available for families that qualify through the School Board of Alachua County (SBAC) for free or reduced lunch. Families may also qualify through the City of Gainesville Family Application for Reduced Fees.
