Wax Wings Plays at “Free Fridays” on July 13
The band Wax Wings will play at the “Free Fridays” Concert Series at Bo Diddley Plaza in downtown Gainesville Friday, July 13 from 8-10 p.m.
Wax Wings is a lyrical folk roots revival quintet from Gainesville, Florida featuring Brian Turk on upright bass, Andrew Cook on fiddle, John David Eriksen on cello, Mike Dorsey on drums and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Chelsea Carnes. Wax Wings weaves various threads of influence including folk-punk, jazz, country and classical into a unique tapestry of inimitable harmony. With distinctively forceful vocals and lyricism, Carnes captivates with relatable lyrics about friendship and loss. The results are strikingly textured and sincere compositions that both inspire and haunt. Wax Wings has played at many diverse venues including Tampa Bay’s Gasparilla Music Festival and the Florida Folk Festival.
Creative Loafing Tampa describes Wax Wings as “a finely textured yet upbeat and bouncing mix of chamber folk, gypsy-swing, ragtime jazz and kicking punk-country marked by the confessional lyrics and strong sonorous lead vocals of Chelsea Carnes.”
“Free Fridays” is funded in part by a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council and Culture Builds Florida.
