Join Our New Biddy Ball Program for Basketball and Flag Football

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is pleased to announce Biddy Ball as a new offering for youth athletics. With sessions for basketball and flag football available throughout the spring, children age three to five years old and their parents will have a great introduction to team sports.

At Biddy Ball, parents and children work together to learn the basic motor skills needed to successfully move on to more organized sports. This program prepares young children for the challenges of organized sports in a fun, friendly, easy-going environment. Parents get to spend quality time with their children, while helping them learn and build confidence. The program schedule is as follows:

  • Basketball: April 3-26
  • Flag Football: May 1-24

Registration for each league closes the Friday before each session starts. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m., and there will be a celebration event on the final day of each session. Both sessions last four weeks. Children who are eligible for the free/reduced meal program offered by Alachua County School Board may qualify for a $15 scholarship.  Proof of free/reduced lunch will need to be provided upon registration.

All classes are at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center, located at 1028 NE 14th St. The rate for city residents is $30 per session, and the non-city resident rate is $45 per session. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or voter identification card, is required for city residents at the time of registration.
