Call to Artists for the Main Street Artscape Temporary Art Installation Released
Gainesville Art in Public Places Trust has released the Call to Artists for the Main Street Artscape temporary art installation, a joint project of the City of Gainesville Public Works Department and the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust.
Florida-based artists or artist teams are invited to submit proposals for an 18-month temporary exterior exhibit to be displayed on six pedestals along South Main Street in Gainesville between University Avenue and Depot Road. Developed as part of minor improvements to the pedestrian areas, it is hoped that this project will provide cultural connectivity between the downtown area and Depot Park which is currently under construction.
Pieces will be selected from submissions by the artists by the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust, including representation by the City of Gainesville Public Works Department, which is funding the project. Artists will be paid a $1,500 honorarium for the loan of their work for the duration of the project and related costs. Proposals are due Thursday, June 19, 2014. Review and selection by the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust will occur Tuesday, June 24. The installation will be unveiled as part of the Downtown Festival and Art Show (November 8-9, 2014) and remain in place through March 21, 2016.
