Can you believe Depot Park is already one year old? Fans of Depot Park will not want to miss the one year celebration Saturday, Aug. 19 from 6-9 p.m. Sponsored by the Community Redevelopment Agency, in partnership with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, this event offers a variety of entertainment for Depot Park guests of all ages. From the kid-friendly dance party at the scenic overlook, to live bands, food trucks and a train ride through the park, this celebration will be fun for everyone.

There will be music on the main stage on the hill. S-Connection Aerial Arts will perform acrobatics at the West Overlook on the water’s edge and at the Big Wheel in the Northeast Gateway. Other activities include face painting, a scavenger hunt, kid’s crafts, knocker ball, balloon animals, rock painting, oversized yard games and more. Visitors have their choice of fare from Tropical Sno, Big Island Bowls, Fly’n Hawaiian and the Boxcar’s new food offerings.

For those driving to the event, the RTS lot adjacent to the park will be available for use until 9 p.m. Visitors can also take a bus to the Rosa Parks Downtown Station, which is conveniently located across Depot Avenue from the park. There is a drop-off area on the north side of the park for those who need it.

The City of Gainesville established the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in 1981 to create a redevelopment framework in which the central city district will evolve into a more dynamic office, service, financial, entertainment, residential and governmental area. The authority to establish the CRA is enabled by Sections 163.330-163.45 Florida Statutes. Redevelopment is undertaken in four distinct redevelopment districts: Downtown, Fifth Avenue Pleasant Street, College Park University Heights and the Eastside Redevelopment Area. Redevelopment projects are coordinated in these districts by the CRA, and implemented by a team of partners that includes other city departments and private citizens.
