On Dec. 1, the City Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s Pop Warner Cheerleading Team, the Gator Jr. Midget Team, placed first at the Southeast Region Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fla.
This first place finish grants the Gainesville Gator Jr. Midgets Team an opportunity to compete for the national title at the Pop Warner National Cheerleading Championship that will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
This is the first time any Gainesville cheer team has represented the city and the southeast region on the national stage. The Gainesville Gator Jr. Midget cheerleaders, along with their coaching staff, consider it an honor to represent the City Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department at the National Cheer Championships. “We are ambassadors on the national stage for the PRCA youth athletic programs and that is something to cheer about!” said Beverly Perry, head coach for the team.
The performance will be telecast on ESPN for all Level 4 cheerleaders. Pop Warner is offering on-demand video streaming of the 2013 National Cheer and Dance Championships from Monday, Dec. 5 - Friday, Dec. 13 at http://www.dartfish.tv/vault
