City of Gainesville Appoints Anthony Lyons New City Manager

4/21/2016

The City of Gainesville is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Lyons to the position of Gainesville City Manager. Lyons succeeds former City Manager Russ Blackburn in the position, who resigned in November 2015. Since Blackburn's resignation, Lyons has served as the city's interim City Manager.

Lyons was selected by the City Commission this afternoon after a national recruitment effort. After the search, the City Commission narrowed the field of candidates and they interviewed a total of five candidates earlier this week, both as a group and individually.

Lyons has served the City of Gainesville for almost eight years in a number of positions, including interim Planning and Development Services Director, Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency Director and, most recently, interim City Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Indiana University Bloomington. Previously, Lyons was the Executive Director for the Capital City Development Corporation in Boise, Idaho; the Director of Planning and Development in the City of Claremont, New Hampshire and the Executive Director of the Main Street Program in Claremont, New Hampshire.
