Gainesville's Next City Manager to be Selected This Week
The Gainesville City Commission is selecting the city’s new city manager next week. Colin Baenziger, the executive search consultant, recommended 10 candidates to the City Commission at the April 7 City Commission meeting. The City Commission narrowed the field to six candidates who have been invited for in-person interviews. The six finalists are:
- Kevin Cowper, Assistant City Manager, Auburn, Alabama
- Anthony Lyons, Interim City Manager, Gainesville, Florida
- J.J. Murphy, City Manager, Hobbs, New Mexico
- Anthony O’Rourke, City Manager, Yakima, Washington
- Patrick Salerno, past City Manager, Coral Gables, Florida
Interviews with the full City Commission are scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 beginning at 10 a.m. in the City Hall Auditorium, which is located on the first floor of 200 E. University Ave. The public is invited to observe the interviews in the auditorium. The interviews will not air live on Community 12TV; however, they will air and stream online Wednesday, April 20 beginning at 9 a.m. Individual interviews between the candidates and each commissioner are scheduled for Wednesday, April 20.

- 10 a.m.: Anthony Lyons
- 11:10 a.m.: Patrick Salerno
- 1 p.m.: J.J. Murphy
- 2:10 p.m.: Anthony O'Rourke
- 3:30 p.m.: Kevin Cowper
A community reception for the candidates is scheduled at the Thelma Boltin Center, which is located at 516 NE Second Ave., Tuesday, April 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and take this opportunity to meet the candidates.
Following the interviews, the City Commission will select the city’s next city manager during the City Commission meeting on Thursday, April 21 beginning at 1 p.m.
