The Gainesville City Commissioner will host its second Telephone Town Hall, talkGNV, to discuss the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s (PRCA) master plan, PRCA Vision 2020. City officials will answer caller questions about the master plan, including future enhancements to Gainesville’s park facilities and recreation opportunities, as well as discuss potential funding methods.
The telephone town hall meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6-7 p.m. A database of approximately 23,000 home telephone numbers will be dialed prior to the 6 p.m. call. Interested residents can pre-register or enroll cell phone numbers at http://www.cityofgainesville.org/openGNV/talkGNV.aspx, or call 352-334-5032 and leave a message with their name and telephone number. On social media, look for #PRCAVision2020 for updates.
The City of Gainesville encourages callers to join the telephone meeting to learn about PRCA Vision 2020, and share their opinions on its priorities and funding methods by asking a question on-air or by participating in polling questions.
The PRCA Vision 2020 Master Plan, adopted in November 2012, addresses the current state of all city parks and facilities and identifies gaps throughout the city in amenities, programming and service levels. The long-term plan identifies needs for renovations of facilities, pools and parks. The plan reflects six different improvement actions recommended by citizens: 1) new and improved parks and programs; 2) athletic facilities and program; 3) nature parks, programs and environmental education; 4) cultural facilities and programs; 5) recreation, centers, pools and programs and 6) trails and bikeways system.
