4/22/2015

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) will host its annual awards ceremony the evening of Thursday, April 23 at the Gainesville-Alachua County Senior Center, which is located at 5701 NW 34th Street. This year’s awards include four Medal of Valor recipients for performing a dangerous trench rescue, and a number of unit citations for GFR crews that completed rescues, resuscitations and other services.

Citizens will also be recognized for rescuing a local resident from a pond in northwest Gainesville. Several community partners will be recognized for their contributions to the GFR mission, and several residents who became customers of GFR’s services during times of crisis in 2014 will express their appreciation to the crews that assisted them.

The media is invited to attend and should anticipate the formal awards program beginning around 7-7:15 p.m., when newly appointed Fire Chief Jeff Lane will take the Oath of Office.
