Fifth Annual Gainesville Kids Triathlon Oct. 5

9/29/2014

Children participating in Gainesville's Fifth Annual Kids Triathlon will wake up at dawn and hit the ground running - and do some biking and swimming too!

The three-sport event will take place Sunday, Oct. 5 at Citizens Field, located at 1385 NE 14th St. in Gainesville. All participants will receive a finisher's medal, post-race snacks and a chance to win door prizes. To add to the fun, competitors have the option to kick-off the swimming segment by sliding down a water slide.

This family event is open to aspiring athletes of all ages. Youth can compete in four divisions: Junior Division A (ages 5-8), Junior Division B (ages 9-10), Senior Division A (ages 11-12) and Senior Division B (ages 13-15).

In addition to the competitive youth divisions, a Tri4fun division will be open to racers of all ages who would like to participate just for fun. It's a great opportunity for a family to participate in the race together. Registration is open until Oct. 4 at www.GainesvilleKidsTri.com.

Sponsored by the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency, and organized by DRC Sports, the kids' triathlon was created to encourage youth to get outside and embrace the many benefits of physical fitness and healthy competition. Last year, more than 200 people participated in the race.
