City of Gainesville, International Association of Firefighters Reach Agreement

The City of Gainesville is pleased to announce that amendments to an agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters was ratified earlier this afternoon — extending an existing agreement through the next two fiscal years.

Amendments to the agreement provide market rate adjustments intended to align our firefighters’ pay with those of peer agencies. Raises will be implemented over the course of the next two years, beginning with a retroactive increase of no less than 4 percent, effective October 7, 2019.

In addition to the significant pay increases, the amendments also implement 12-weeks of paid parental leave for the birth of a child, adoption of a child or placement of a foster child. With the IAFF ratification, five of the city’s seven bargaining units and all non-represented employees now have access to a paid parental leave benefit.
