H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool Temporarily Closed for Improvements
H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool will be temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance and improvements on the dive tower from Monday, Feb. 11-Friday, Feb. 15. Due to safety considerations, the pool must also be closed during this work. If there is any delay in work, the pool closure may be extended into the weekend of Feb. 16-17.
The project is scheduled to begin Feb. 11, and is targeted to be complete by March 15. The first step of the renovation is sandblasting the dive tower. This is the only part of the process when the pool will be closed. During the remaining weeks of the project, the pool will be open to the public; however, there may be periods when the dive tower and slide may be closed for brief periods as work continues. The goal is to minimize interruptions to pool operations as much as possible.
H. Spurgeon Cherry Pool is a very well-known and unique pool, in that it is the only public pool in north central Florida with a dive tower. Dive teams come from all over central and north Florida to Gainesville to practice on the tower. The Gator Dive Club, based in Gainesville, and the University of Florida Dive Team, also utilize the tower for dive practices.
This project is funded through capital improvement funds in the amount of $47,250 for dedicated improvements to the pool.
